Kitten Care Guide

🏡 Bringing Your Kitten Home

Bringing home a new kitten is an exciting time. Our kittens are raised in a loving home environment and are well socialised, but it is normal for them to need a few days to adjust to their new surroundings.

For the first few days, your kitten may feel shy or unsure. Please be patient and allow them time to settle at their own pace.

Provide:

  • A quiet, safe room initially

  • Litter tray nearby

  • Food & water within easy reach

  • A warm bed or blanket

  • Gentle handling only

Most kittens settle within a few days and will quickly bond with their new family.

🗓️ The First 7 Days

Day 1–2:
Your kitten may hide or sleep more than usual. This is completely normal. Allow them to explore slowly and avoid overwhelming them.

Day 3–5:
Confidence grows. Your kitten will begin exploring, playing and seeking attention.

Day 6–7:
Your kitten should now feel comfortable in their new home and routines.

Keep noise low, routines consistent and provide lots of reassurance.

🍗 Feeding Your Kitten

All Little Brits AU kittens are raised on premium quality food.

Your kitten will go home with:

  • A feeding guide

  • Current food details

  • Transition instructions if you wish to change foods

We recommend:

  • Feeding 3–4 small meals daily initially

  • Fresh water available at all times

  • Slow food transitions over 7–10 days

A sudden diet change can cause tummy upset, so please follow our guide.

🧼 Grooming

British Shorthairs and Selkirk Rex coats are low-maintenance but still benefit from regular grooming.

Recommended routine:

  • Weekly brushing (more during seasonal shedding)

  • Nail trims every 2–3 weeks

  • Occasional gentle wipe of eyes if needed

  • Regular checking of ears

We are always happy to guide new owners on grooming techniques.

💉 Health & Veterinary Care

Your kitten will leave:

  • Fully health checked by our veterinarian

  • Age-appropriate vaccinations completed

  • Microchipped

  • Wormed & parasite treated

  • With pedigree papers (where applicable)

A vet check within the first week of arrival with your own veterinarian is recommended to establish care.
